SENTENCED Screening

Join us for our Community Impact screening of Sentenced, an immersive and vulnerable exploration of the epidemic of childhood illiteracy through a series of braided character-driven stories. Executive produced and narrated by 4x NBA basketball champion Stephen Curry. The screening will be followed by a panel with filmmakers and community members.

*Panel Discussion to Follow Screening*

The film explores the painful reality of how illiteracy passes from one generation to the next through the real-life stories of four American families in South-Central Los Angeles, rural Appalachia and New York City. It also features commentary from educational partners in Texas, Detroit and Memphis. These stories don’t politicize or point fingers, rather they describe how illiteracy is a community problem across our country that is not confined to any demographic or region, nor the fault of any one system or institution. However, what is clear is that illiteracy is a growing crisis.
