The ability to read is fundamental to success- in school, in the workplace, in becoming an engaged citizen. Too many of the kids in our community today, cannot read at grade level. We need concerned citizens who are willing to spend 1-hour a week helping a child learn to read, in turn, building their self confidence and setting them on a path to success.
Readings Pals aims to see every child enter 7th grade reading at grade level, equipped with the tools they need to learn and to engage as citizen steward of their community.
Reading Pals provides every child, who does not read at grade level, an opportunity for success through one-on-one reading sessions with a committed volunteer. We equip students with reading skills by providing thirty-minutes of focused attention in a dedicated space and an easy-to-use curriculum, and in turn, students build their self-confidence for future success in the classroom and beyond.
Simple-to-use reading materials will guide you and your student through a full range of topics and engaging stories. A mix of non-fiction and fictional books will be provided to you and your student to explore each week. With three-simple steps, the Reading Pals lesson plan is a recipe for success!
You and your student read together
Reading 1-on-1 has never been so easy! Each school has a dedicated classroom on campus, designed to create a harmonious reading environment. On-site classroom teachers will supply you with ample reading advice, encouragement and students to read with throughout your volunteer experience. Volunteers will read with two students, one at a time, for thirty-minutes each. All Reading Pals students attend twice per week with a dedicated volunteer.
You make a Lasting Impact
Reading Pals is an engaged community program, bridging the gap between public schools and the citizens of our community. Our students, schools and outcomes are improved by your commitment. You naturally offer a different perspective and supply students with a broader view of their community. With your help, we are able to shine light on individual students, accessing their greater potential for learning.
